The 2025 Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Games will introduce Mind Games, including chess and Scrabble, for the first time, adding a new dimension to the competition.
According to UMEA Chairman Mr. Kitezaala Katumba Twaibu, the decision to include these games was made to help students develop critical thinking and focus.
“We have added Mind Games to this year’s tournament to challenge students both mentally and physically,” he said. “These games will help improve focus, critical thinking, and decision-making skills,” he added.
Namagabi Secondary School, hosting the event for the third time, will welcome over 100 participating schools from across the region.
Participating schools are expected to report on April 17, with the opening ceremony scheduled for Good Friday, April 18. The event will run through Easter Monday, April 21.
More than 1,200 students are expected to compete in a variety of sports, including football, netball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and the newly introduced Mind Games. The inclusion of Mind Games will feature competitions for both boys and girls, aiming to promote intellectual development alongside physical fitness.
In the 2024 games, Kibuli Secondary School emerged as the overall champions, excelling in table tennis and badminton. Kawanda Secondary School dominated in netball and handball, while Masaka Secondary School triumphed in boys' football, defeating Madinah Islamic in the final.
This year's tournament promises even more intense competition, with over 1,200 students vying for victory across multiple disciplines.
