The 2022-2023 Woodball Most Valuable Player faces significant competition from national team players who have been training in Bunjako. However, he believes his experience is his greatest asset.

“I know all national team players are a threat because we have been in camp training and improving our game, but my focus is to win, and I will go for it,” Khedi said.

This year’s event promises to be bigger and more competitive, not because of the number of participants but due to the improved quality.

The two-day event at Soroti University has attracted the cream of Uganda’s woodball players, all aiming to win the most prestigious woodball tournament in the country. This makes this year’s edition more competitive than ever before.

A new breed of players is determined to challenge the seniors in both the men’s and women’s categories. Youngsters like Gilles Amanyire, Daniel Apita, and Trevor Oming will be out to challenge their seniors, including Khedi, Onesmus Atamba, and Crescent Rwanyombya.

In the women’s category, it will be another intense battle as all top female players have vowed to win the tournament. Joan Mukoova, a national team player, revealed her target is to win the tournament.

“Last year in the Uganda International, I won bronze in fairway singles and gold in stroke doubles with Sandra Nabagala. My target is to dominate the event by winning a medal in each event I participate in,” she said.

However, Joyce Nalubega cautioned her opponents not to underestimate her.

“I’m a champion and have been in camp training. So, that gives me confidence that victory is mine,” Nalubega said.

They face stiff opposition from Alverah Mukamarinda, Sanyu Mirembe, Sandra Nabaggala, Nalwoga Babirye, Jackie Naula, Lillian Zawedde, and Precious Namubiru.

Over 500 participants from clubs, corporates, and institutions of learning are expected for the two-day event.
