KAMPALA - Ecobank has entered into a partnership with Carrefour Uganda to enable customers to pay conveniently using contactless debit, prepaid, and credit cards, as well as mobile money platforms like MTN MoMo and Airtel Money.
The partnership, which features the rollout of Ecobank’s Smart Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals, will provide seamless and secure payment options at all Carrefour stores across the country.
Grace Muliisa, Ecobank Uganda’s Managing Director, said the collaboration, dubbed “Swipe and Win” is aimed at rewarding customers who make purchases using Ecobank POS terminals.
She said shoppers stand a chance to win a variety of prizes by simply swiping their cards or making digital payments at Carrefour locations, which include Oasis Mall, Lugogo Mall, Metroplex Mall, Victoria Mall, and Acacia Mall.
She said that five customers will be selected each week to participate in a trolley dash worth sh500,000, where they get the chance to grab as many items as possible within a limited time.
“In total, 20 winners will enjoy this experience, amounting to sh10,000,000 in rewards. Winners will be celebrated during Carrefour’s “Magic Hour” activations each week.
Muliisa said this initiative will promote cashless transactions and that the terminals will support major global networks, including Visa, MasterCard, and Interswitch, along with Apple and Samsung Pay.
She said the collaboration reflects their ongoing commitment to deliver secure and convenient shopping experiences for our customers.
Emmanuel Kikoni, Head of Cash Management at Ecobank, added that the POS terminals guarantee instant processing and generate receipts for both customers and the store, streamlining payment verification and reconciliation.
Christophe Orcet, Regional Director for East Africa at Carrefour, said that the partnership strengthens their commitment to delivering efficient, secure payment solutions.

On the other hand, Carrefour is part of the Majid Al Futtaim Group, an Emirati-owned conglomerate operating across the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The Group employs 43,000 people, with owned assets valued at $18b.
