KAMPALA - Let’s just agree – Uganda has no fashion-bound seasons. It was evident over the weekend when LC Waikiki, the globally popular fashion brand, unveiled its latest seasonal collection at Acacia Mall.

The collection was unveiled in a fashion show-themed New Season, New You.

The event brought together Uganda’s fashion enthusiasts, influencers, and families in a lively celebration of creativity and style. For the influencers and children, the highlight of the afternoon was the performance by the Ghetto Kids.

When that happens at a fashion show, where the garments do not get the deserved attention, you know something is amiss.

The fashion enthusiasts expected a seasonal collection. The world’s fashion capitals like Paris and Rome are unveiling winter collections. While we do not have winter in Kampala, the weather is still largely cold and rainy. So, we expected fashion that would speak to that weather.

It did not. There was just about everything on the runway.  Perhaps the season was not based on climate. However, it neither was festive.

“This collection is not just about clothing; it’s about transformation. We want to inspire Ugandans to feel confident, embrace their individuality, and step into a new season of self-expression,” LC Waikiki representative shared during the event. That summed up the collection- all words, all foam and very little thematic content.

Away from the intellectual approach to fashion shows, the modelling was on point and the viewers were held captive. They strutted down the open-air runway, captivating the audience with the versatility and flair of the new designs.

Ugandan celebrities like Martha Kay, Canary Mugume and Crysto Panda graced the event alongside popular TikTok influencers, adding star power to the occasion. One of the highlights of the night was Mugume’s modelling skills on the runway.

The event was more than just a fashion showcase, it was a cultural experience where fashion met entertainment. With free entry, it provided the perfect outing for families and friends.
