The Catholic Centenary Memorial Choir (CACEMCHO) has staged its Christmas concert, the first one since the lifting of the Covid-19 lockdown.
The concert took place at Christ the King Church, Kampala on Sunday (November 4, 2022). It was graced by an impressive number of Christians, mainly the choir’s ardent fans from the various Catholic parishes and dioceses.
Directed and conducted by Anthony Kambugu and Vincent Katende, CACEMCHO sang a variety of hymns, including Come Holy Spirit by Dr. Nicholas Aza, Jangu Ayu Yezu Mukama by Tony Muyingo (RIP), Jesu, Joy on Man’s Desiring by Johann Sebastian Bach, Christmas Is Coming (by Joel Raney), Jester Hairston’s Calypso Lullaby, Kitebe kya Magezi (by Fr. Dr. James Kabuye) and Adolphe Adam’s O Holy Night, just to name a few.
The Christians were also entertained by Fr. Mathias Nteza (the Chaplain of Christ the King Choirs’ Association), who on top of performing Joseph Kyagambiddwa’s Mbuuza Abataka b’e Buyudaaya, also conducted the popular Halleluiah Chorus (from Handel’s Messiah).
During the concert, Christians contributed money towards the purchase of musical instruments (for the choir). The Chief Guest, Dr. Bitola’s Aza paid tribute to CACEMCHO for its great musical ministry. He later donated about sh3.3m to the choir.
