Cherubim Chamber Choir, a Christian-oriented independent choral musical group based in Kampala, staged its first post-Covid musical concert at the National Cultural Centre (National Theatre) on Sunday, July 31, 2022.

The youthful choral group, which mainly comprises university students, dedicated its concert, Ubi Caritas (Latin for where there is love and charity) to Jovanni-Rey De Pedro (RIP), a celebrated Filipino-American pianist and musical philanthropist, who was a passionate fan and supporter of the choir.

The Cherubim choristers surprised their fans when they threw for them a mixed repertoire of Christian hymns and secular love songs, which were re-arranged and harmonized with added voices and instrumental accompaniments.

The songs included Memories by Andy Beck, Can u fell the love tonight (music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice), O God beyond all praising (by Gustav Holst, setting by Proulx), Ani Yali Amanyi (by Elly Wamala, arranged by Dr. Branco Lawrence Ssekalegga), Perfect (by Ed Sheeran), Ubi Caritas (by John Purifoy), Greatest Love (Words by Linda Creed, music by Michael Nasser, arranged by Jay Althouse), Lead Me Lord (by John D. Becker, arranged by Mark Hayes) and O Yezu Mpulira Nkwetaaga (by Msgr Expedito Magembe (arranged by Michael Mukisa).

The Cherubim Chamber Chorale was accompanied by Mseto Nation Band, which also displayed a superb performance.
