As far as modern interior décor and furnishings are concerned, detail, much more than price tags, takes the day.

It is the way in which furniture and other furnishings are arranged and fixed in the living space that matters, much more than how much these objects cost.

To know more about trendy interior furnishings, you cannot afford to miss the Vision Group’s Homes and Construction Expo, which is set to take place on October 14th and 15th at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

According to Judith Sonkaynar, the director at Artech International Limited - a company that deals in manufacturing and furniture installation, who are set to exhibit their services at the expo, modern homes should be well planned, with furnished walk-in closets and a bathroom.

Sonkayner says that ideally, a walk-in closet and the bathroom should be close to each other for convenience to the user. Also, the furniture should exhibit the finer detail of art. “This detail should focus on the craftsmanship of an item and how the various elements are put together,” she says. Sonkaynar further adds that for a fabulous look, a homeowner should have taste for colour.

Showcasing one of her client’s homes, whose interior she furnished, Sonkaynar said he preferred the command of traditional methods of joinery such as dovetailing, mortise and tenon joints; together with tongue and groove joints.

“The drawers should have enough storage space while the walk-in closet should be given enough room. Ensure the drawers are fixed away from the windows to allow natural light to flow into the room.

However, keep dust away,” she says. According to her, most of the drawers of a walk-in closet have dressing mirrors, which ideally should be designed authentically. “The same space can also accommodate an island closet,” she adds.

Sonkaynar says an island closet can be used to store jewelry and shoes, but not clothes. For the bathroom, she explains that it comes with a simple cabinet below the sink, which is intended to keep water away from socking the wood. She explains that the cabinets in the bathroom should be storage spaces for towels, soap dishes, toothbrush, fresheners and other grooming items.

Sonkaynar is one of the many Homes and Construction Expo 2023 exhibitors who will grace the second, and first physical homes expo Vision Group is organising. Fiona Tamale, Vision Group’s events manager says this expo appeals to everyone with a plan to own a home or run a real estate business.

“The event is organised for visitors to connect, share knowledge, and build valuable relationships. We are also offering exhibitors the chance to showcase their innovations to their target audiences, who are seeking new housing and construction solutions,” she said.

Themed Innovations, Standards and Opportunities, the entrance fee of sh10,000 that the participants pay will enable them to attend training workshops free of charge.
