How to take care of your ponytail palms

Ponytail palm is not a common plant you will find in every road side nursery or flower shop. It is also not counted among the rare plants.

Regardless, pony tail is a beautiful palm and its name says it all. It can be mistaken for a neatly held together ponytail, thanks to its unique trunk that has a well-rounded base.

On its top, this palm has split long leaves that cascade down towards the trunk.

What is more interesting with this palm; despite its beauty and elegant look, it is a simple plant to grow and it can thrive both outside and indoors.

Besides, you can choose to let it grow tall or dwarf it by planting it in a small planter to limit its growth. This one can decorate your office desk, TV area or library.

Patrick Semakula a gardener concurs pointing out that ponytail palms also called Nolina Recurvate or Beaucarnea recurvate are low maintenance plants. You don’t have to water or prune regularly and being an evergreen plant, it will look great all year round.

It is also a perfect gift to give someone for their birthday or on Christmas.

Meanwhile, Denicah Aine, another gardener who is passionate about ponytail palms says the unique leaves store water, allowing the plant to thrive in hot weather. While planting, use well mixed soil and the planter should have draining holes to protect the roots from rotting due to water logging.

These plants go for sh50, 000 upwards depending on the size and market.
