Cindy Sanyu has labelled her reunion with Jackie Chandiru and Lillian Mbabazi a breath of fresh air.
The singing trio, under the name Blu 3, have a joint concert at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel on June 22, 2024.
The group rose to fame in the early 2000s after winning the Coca-Cola Popstars contest. They went on to record the albums, including Hitaji (2004) and Burrn (2007), before disbanding in 2008 over misunderstandings among the members.
In one-on-one interview on Friday June 7, Cindy admitted to missing her colleagues for years.
Cindy revealed that she had suffered a lot during her solo career, having to work with untalented vocalists.
“I suffered working with artistes that are not talented. You are singing and someone is just mimicking you. I am not saying this to diss anyone, but right now if I am singing and Jackie is singing along... you don't know how that feels to me. That relief is so clear to me that I am able to work with people with talent without having to patch and improvise," she said.
“Even at most shows that I had alone, I wished I had my colleagues by my side. I am so excited to be with them again and to hear a perfect voice on my left and on my right; it is a beautiful feeling. Working with a talented artiste is a different ball game, it makes my work easier.” Cindy added.
Efforts to get back together initially seemed futile, until last year (2023) when the ladies finally had a show at Naguru Skyz Hotel in Kampala.
Now they are back together; in studio and doing rehearsals, preparing for their reunion project.
What Jackie said
While appearing in an interview on Bukedde TV's Vibe Mix show on Tuesday, June 4, as she was premiering her new song project with DJ Shiru titled Abeeyo, Jackie refuted allegations that her beef with Cindy, which was believed to have been fuelled by Lilian, led to the collapse of the group. She further added that the reason was something else, terming it a “general problem.”
Jackie said getting them to a place of reunion was no walk in the park.
.
“I arranged a tense reunion meeting where we got to sit together for the first time since our breakup. I did it after I recovered from severe depression and drug addiction where I was helped by one Larry Martin Mukooza, a fashion designer and proprietor of Larry Casual, to set up the meeting. We sat in the room and we quarrelled, we cried tears, we revisited the pain all over again.
"When we sat down together, we started realising that we misunderstood each other in some cases. We were pushed into the media and the world of entertainment at such a young age. We also did not know each other that much. I believe that all we went through has strengthened us and every day we try to be better. We are all stilll alive so we can still serve the country in the way we all know better - music," Jackie said.
She told the fans to expect quality music, complete with good sound.
What Lillian Mbabazi said
We later had a phone interview with Lillian Mbabazi.
“We have been in this game for some time. Even when we broke up, we all remained in the industry doing the same thing that we all know well, where we gained a lot of experience which will be applied and we move on as a team. We are longtime friends who know each other's behaviour, likes and dislikes, which has helped us to on how to handle each other. We are all mature people who know what we want and we work under minimal supervision. We are dedicated and aggressive with work," Lillian said.
She boasted that Uganda has failed to have other musical trios to replace them.
"They failed to come up with something new to bridge our gap. It created demand and now we are back to fill it. We are in studio and we shall give our fans the new return of Blu 3 because for us, our job is to sing and we real sing," Lillian said.
She, however, lamented about the lack of talented and creative managements in Uganda.
