Police have summoned the female duo K&K Music, formerly known as Kataleya and Kandle, on alleged libel charges.
The duo, Namakula Hadijah (Kataleya) and Nabatuusa Rebecca (Kandle), faces accusations of spreading false information that could harm someone's reputation.
In the summons letter received by K&K Music, titled "Alleged Case of Libel, Vide Ntinda SD REF: 85/25/01/2024," the police stated that the two are required to report to the Regional CID Office - Kampala Metropolitan East at Jinja Road on today (Thursday) for an interview and statement recording to aid the police investigation.
However, K&K Music claims they have been receiving threats from unidentified individuals since their return from a music hiatus. In their statement, the duo also alleges that certain music promoters were threatened against booking them for shows.
According to their claims, all of this was done unlawfully without formal police summons. They express relief that a proper legal summons has now been issued, and they are willing to cooperate fully to resolve the issues with the undisclosed complainant.
“We assure everyone of our cooperation and we will present ourselves to the legitimate police authorities to provide a truthful statement regarding the malicious allegations made against us. These attempts aim to intimidate us and hinder our legitimate music business and livelihood,” read a statement from the group.
