KAMPALA - Accountant Natasha Nyonyozi is the new Miss Uganda having beaten 25 contestants to the crown in the wee hours of Sunday morning at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
She was followed by Jinja’s Sureya Umeimah, 25, a cadet pilot and Butambala’s Joan Nabatanzi, 25, in first and second runner-up positions respectively.
For her composure when facing a panel of judges who included former Miss World Africa Quiin Abenakyo during the critical question-and-answer session, Nyonyozi, 23, had to win the tiara and a Toyota Wish car as the grand prize.
The evening started off on a good note at 8:00pm with performances from D’Maestroz Band led by former Coca-Cola Rated Next’s winner Daniel Kawesa.
The band evoked time and feeling doing some classic soukous and folksy covers to rev up the audience that came in good numbers.

Nyonyozi’s fans filled up a chunk of the VIP section and cheered her on loudly every time she took to the stage.
Other winners on the night were Noritah Martha Tusiime (congeniality), Mercy Adongo (Miss Sports), Sarah Twinkle Karungi (Beach Beauty), Letaru Prisca Queen Patience (Miss Popularity and Miss Elite), Maria Mugagga Namuli (Miss Talent), Sureya Umeimah (Top model), Patra Nalugga Ataliba (Miss Personality), Esther Nalumansi Kironde (Miss Multimedia), Natasha Nyonyozi (Miss Photogenic), Joan Nabatanzi (Miss Rising Woman) and Genevieve Akello (Miss North).

There were musical performances from reggae star Maddox Sematimba whose pieces such as Namagembe, Irene and Take It Easy blew away the audience before Ykee Benda sealed off the evening.
The evening was done by 1:00am amid ululations and tears of joy.
