Save space at home with dynamic furniture

Thus, he has designed dynamic wooden furniture, such as folding desks, chairs, and extendable folding tables that can be compact when not in use. Additionally, Kawagga has designed a sofa that doubles as a bed, addressing the issue of limited space for individuals living in single-rooms. The sofa-bed can easily be moved and dismantled with ease, and re-assembled in case someone is moving house.

The sofa-bed has a storage area that can be used to store pillows and bedcovers during the day when it is converted into a sofa. He says he first draws a sketch of a desk, chair, table, or sofa set on a piece of paper to come up with a faultless design. After measuring, he uses a snap and wood cutter to cut the iron pipes and lumber into appropriate pieces. The measured pieces of plywood are assembled together to bring out an accurate frame of a desk, chair, and table. For a sofa-bed, the metal pipes are securely fastened to the wood or lumber.

Cost

The prices for the chairs are sh80,000 and sh90,000, while the tables go for between sh70,000, sh100,000, and sh150,000. The sofa-bed costs sh700,000.

Maintenance tips

Even though these products are waterproof, Kawagga says they should not be placed in outdoor spaces for a long time. Also, avoid putting them close to heat or fire, which can damage them.

Challenges

Like any young innovation project, Kawagga faces challenge of inadequate advanced tools and machines, which limits his productivity and output capacity. Additionally, the cost of the materials he uses for design is quite high, because he purchases them from retail outlets.
