City socialite Sipapa (real name Charles Olim) has blasted musicians over blaming him for spoiling the careers of those he manages.
The Sipapa Entertainment boss instead said Ugandan musicians have a tendency of becoming overly excited when they step into the limelight, and in so doing, they fail to manage the fame and their careers end.
"Some people say I kill musicians' careers, but I believe I can lift any musician from zero to hero and push him to the international space because I have money and I don't feed off them. The bad thing about Ugandan musicians is that they cannot handle the excitement that comes with fame. Once they see people hyping them, they feel so big and lose it all," he said.
Sipapa explained that the reason artistes run away from his label is not that they have faded, but because he doesn't make them sign contracts.
"I don't sign artistes. I work with them on a mutual basis, so when they record a hit song and feel big, they just run away. I always want to work on an artiste's image first, then push their music and let them shine. So when artistes see me concentrating on their image rather than their music, they think I am doing nothing and they throw away their chance," he said, before adding that some just want to remain in poverty.
Sipapa has worked with musicians Brown Sugar, Serena Bata, Aggies, Karl Famous, Melody, and Record Era Butida, among others.
When Brown Sugar left his label, she decided to ride on Tata Sam's fame in comedy.
Serena Bata has tried to pick herself up through Promoter Abtex, while Karl Famous tried to ride on socialite Don Bahati's fame.
