Your 60x150ft plot can have two self-contained houses

“For one to build a house on a 60x150ft plot, they have to pay attention to the houses surrounding the plot,” Suzan Akello, an architect says.

Peter Wasswa, who has been in the construction industry for the last 12 years, advises those with such a plot size to start by grouping the facilities necessary for the smooth functioning of their property. “Consider putting up toilets first and determine where the septic tank and rubbish collection centre will be located.

Some people may want to see the sunrise and sunset. And there are also security issues and the aspect of privacy,” he says.  “On this plot, you can construct two-bedroom, self-contained, or semi-detached units.

However, this land can only accommodate two units such that you have enough space for the outside facilities,” Wasswa adds. Normally each unit will have two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, a dining area, a kitchen with a pantry, and front and back verandas.

Outdoor facilities

David Kireli, a civil engineer, says the outside can include a parking area for vehicles, waste and surface water management areas. It can also have green spaces like grass, flowers and gardens, as well as walkways, and emergency facilities like water tanks and latrines. Security or caretakers’ quarters are also important, especially if you are planning to build units for tenants.
