Minister Kaboyo rebukes irresponsible fathers

"Your role is not to only produce children without catering for them. You should take up your mantle as fathers and work in partnership with us to bring up children," Kaboyo said.

Luwero-Rwenzori Triangle state minister (Office of the Prime Minister) Alice Kaboyo has lashed out at fathers who do not cater for their children, saying they are contributing to juvenile delinquency and crime.

Kaboyo on March 14, 2025, blamed the increasing number of children on the streets on the fathers who have failed to take up their mantle as family heads.

"Your role is not to only produce children without catering for them. You should take up your mantle as fathers and work in partnership with us to bring up children," she said.

Kaboyo made the remarks in Luwero where she represented Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja during a belated International Women's Day celebration organized by Emmaus Centre, a Catholic evangelical institution in the district.

The minister said the number of children who are out of school in Luwero is alarming despite the introduction of Universal Primary Education and Universal Secondary Education because many fathers had dropped their responsibility of educating their children.

Kaboyo also urged women in high-ranking positions to continue playing their role as spouses without allowing their statuses to overshadow the moral fabric of the family.

She thanked Emmaus Centre for moulding women into responsible mothers by equipping them with spiritual economic and social skills.

Luweero Resident District Commissioner Richard Bwabye had earlier on said the area had a big number of children who are out of school despite the introduction of UPE and USE.

Bwabye, who said he was planning to arrest parents whose children would be found loitering in the villages during the weekdays, was supported by Kaboyo.

The minister thanked the women for their efforts to mould mothers in Luwero holistically.

Stop infighting

On the impending National Resistance Movement primaries, Kaboyo advised the party supporters to desist from infighting and to avoid fielding numerous candidates.

She noted that the opposition took advantage of the divisions among NRM supporters to win elective positions during the 2021 polls.

The women of Emmaus women ministry said their mission was to provide wholistic needs of fellow woman in order to enhance their capabilities.

Kaboyo delivered shillings 10 million on behalf of Nabbanja to support the various activities being undertaken by the women of Emmaus centre. She said her ministry would support them more in their endeavours.

On the Parish Development Model programme, she said the Government was considering giving more funds to parish SACCOs in urban areas because they have bigger populations.
