MASINDI - Youth and children affairs minister Balaam Barugahara, has demanded explanations from Masindi municipal leaders regarding the use of sh1 billion allocated for road maintenance.
Barugahara raised the issue on May 12, 2025, during the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries for Western ward, held at Old St Matthew’s Cathedral, which doubled as an accountability forum, commonly known as a "Kibaraza".
The minister noted that although the central government disburses sh1 billion annually for road maintenance, many roads in Masindi remain in poor condition and are nearly impassable.
He specifically asked Robert Akugizibwe, the councillor representing Kijura and chairperson of the works committee, to account for this financial year’s expenditure.
In response, Akugizibwe said the funds were properly utilised, citing roads that had been worked on in his constituency.
Deputy Mayor Betty Kyomuhendo stated that the municipal council had done its best within available means and asked residents to be patient as work continues on the remaining roads.
