Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu, the titular head of the Muslim community in Uganda has condemned the acts of violence which manifested in the Kawempe North by-election urging the commanders of the security agencies to work on it so that it does not manifest in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
Speaking at a luncheon hosted at his residence as part of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations on Sunday, Nakibinge said there was no justification for the brutality that happened during the Kawempe North by-election in which Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola of the National Unity Platform (NUP) emerged the winner.
He said candidates should always strive to package their message well to the electorate saying nobody can force another to vote for them.
Nakibinge also urged the youth to shun electoral violence saying elections are not worth dying for.
Nakibinge also tasked Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to work on the drainage system for a better city and also compensate the victims whose property were destroyed by the floods.
Regarding the proposal for fees payment through Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in government aided schools, Nakibinge also the patron of the Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) said as foundation bodies, they are opposed to the move underscoring the importance of consultations before implementation of the proposal.
Nakibinge implored those behind the move to emulate the First Lady Mrs Janet Museveni and also the Minister of Education and Sports who he hailed for fostering a good working relationship with the school foundation bodies.
The Supreme Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Shaban Galabuzi urged Muslims to continue with the good deeds which they have exhibited during the holy month of Ramadhan. Galabuzi also thanked individuals and organisations that have supported Muslims with food items that have enabled them to smoothly go through the fasting period.
As the 2026 general elections draw closer, Galabuzi using an example of violence that characterised the Kawempe North by-election implored the government to ensure a free and fair but also peaceful elections.
Regarding the leadership woes at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), Galabuzi said they are not concerned as the office of the Supreme Mufti because they are now an independent Muslim administration duly registered under the laws of Uganda.
Galabuzi also urged KCCA to not only work on the drainage system that is causing flooding in the city but also to compensate the victims.
Galabuzi said it is unfortunate that it has become a trend in Uganda that those responsible swing into action after eventualities.

In the English and Luganda sermons respectively, Dr Ayub Twahir, a lecturer at Makerere University and Sheikh Yasin Kiweewa, the director of dawa at the office of the Supreme Mufti underscored the need for Muslims to continue with the good conduct exhibited during the holy month of Ramadhan saying God continues to document everyone’s deed even after the holy month of Ramadhan has concluded.
“Allah gave us the five pillars of Islam and they are meant to bring us closer to Him. We need to manifest good in whatever we are doing. Today we are bidding farewell to the holy month of Ramadan but we need to remain righteous and kind to each other as we have been doing,” Dr Twahir said.
Twahir said the culture of supporting the needy should continue because there are a lot of rewards in doing so even after the holy month of Ramadhan.
“The culture of supporting each other is very important because it keeps us closer to each other hence minimising conflicts among ourselves,” Dr Twahir said.
Dr Twahir also underscored the need for Muslims to embrace unity saying in unity they are glorified.
Sheikh Kiweewa encouraged Muslims to fast the six more days in the next Muslim month known as shawwal saying whoever observes the six days is taken as one who has fasted for a full year.
Using an analogy of a prostitute who was granted paradise by God for serving a starved dog with water, Kiweewa underscored the need for Muslims to exercise mercy on each other saying it can be a basis for them to secure paradise.
