In response to ongoing cross-border conflicts in West Nile districts and neighbouring countries, the West Nile Development Association (WENDA) has taken steps to help de-escalate tensions.
Districts such as Pakwach, Arua, Moyo, Koboko, Yumbe and Adjumani have witnessed various forms of conflict involving citizens from neighbouring countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.
These conflicts arise from several issues, including cross-border trade disputes, boundary disagreements, social tensions, cultural differences and language barriers.
Moses Akuma Odims, executive director of WENDA, stated that the association is employing a range of strategies aimed at reducing hostilities and fostering peaceful relations between communities on both sides of the border.
Akuma explained that WENDA's ultimate mission is to promote peaceful co-existence among neighbouring communities, many of whom share cultural and linguistic ties.
