NAKASEKE - Police in Nakaseke district have arrested a suspected infrastructure thief after intercepting a vehicle loaded with electric cables and meters during a patrol in Semuto Town Council.

According to Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, the arrest was made on June 13, 2025, at around 1:00am along the Semuto–Matuga Highway.

“Our officers intercepted a vehicle, registration number UBL 406B, a Toyota Ractis, which was loaded with suspected stolen electric cables, meters, and other related items,” Kituuma told journalists at Naguru.

One suspect, identified as Farouk Kazibwe, a 21-year-old technician and resident of Kabule village in Gombe, Wakiso district, was arrested at the scene.

Kituuma said this arrest is part of a broader crackdown on infrastructure theft. “We are witnessing rampant theft of electricity infrastructure. This arrest is just one among many, recently, in Mono, over nine suspects were apprehended,” he said.

He urged the public to remain vigilant, especially when individuals posing as technicians operate at night.

“They often wear uniforms and pretend to be working for utility companies. We ask the public not to confront them directly, but rather alert police or the relevant regulatory agencies to verify their identity and intentions,” Kituuma advised.
