KAMPALA - A Police constable attached to Parliament has been transferred to the China-Uganda Friendship Hospital in Naguru after sustaining serious injuries from a robbery in Kayunga district.
Stanley Kimeze, 32, was rescued by the Police after being caught and assaulted by angry residents who accused him of robbery.
Kimeze was first admitted to Bbaale Health Centre IV before being moved to Naguru, where he remains under strict Police surveillance as investigations continue.
Authorities say he was found in possession of stolen property, including shillings two million in cash, a Samsung smartphone, a wallet, a wristwatch, a pair of shoes and counterfeit currency.
How the robbery happened
The case was reported by Sadat Sekaweka, 35, a resident of Bbaale West village, who told the Police that his room was broken into around 4:30am on Saturday.
Sekaweka had locked his door before stepping out to take a shower, but when he returned 10 minutes later, he found the door wide open and his belongings missing.
The stolen items included shillings two million, a Samsung smartphone, a charger, a wallet containing documents, a wristwatch and a pair of shoes.
Alarmed by the theft, Sekaweka alerted his neighbours and, together, they launched a search for the culprit.
They soon spotted a man hiding nearby. When confronted, the suspect tried to flee, but the residents chased him down and apprehended him.
Under interrogation, the suspect led them to FKK Lodge in Bbaale, where he had been staying. A search of his room uncovered the stolen phone, counterfeit money, a wallet, a wristwatch, and a Police-issued pistol.
Realising he was a Police officer, residents called Bbaale Police, who arrived just in time to rescue him from further mob violence.
Investigation and arrest
The suspect was identified as Number 61225 PC Stanley Kimeze, a Police constable attached to the Counter-Terrorism Unit at Parliament.
A search of his belongings revealed an application letter for pass leave, bearing his name and service number, confirming his identity.
He was disarmed, and the pistol was handed over to the Police armoury.
A Police team led by Besi Khaselele, the officer in charge of Bbaale Police Station, visited the crime scene, collected evidence and recorded eyewitness statements.
The case has been registered under SD reference 06/15/03/2025 at Bbaale Police Station and Kayunga Crime Record Book (CRB) 292/2025.
Authorities have vowed to take strict action against Kimeze, who could face criminal charges and disciplinary measures, including dismissal from the Police and possible prosecution for aggravated robbery.
