Vision Group journalist dies in Masindi

Ashraf Karungi of UBC TV told New Vision Online that he was called by the deceased's wife after she found Baguma unconscious in his bed.

It is a grim Christmas Day for Vision Group and the media fraternity in Masindi district after journalist Joseph Baguma died after collapsing on Sunday evening. 

The deceased has been working with Vision Group under Bukedde and Urban TV.

Baguma was pronounced dead at about 11:30 pm at Mirembe Hospital in Masindi town where he had been rushed after collapsing at his home in Kijura South Central division, Masindi municipality.

Ashraf Karungi of UBC TV told New Vision Online that he was called by the deceased's wife after she found Baguma unconscious in his bed.

"I was still in town by the time I was called to go and rush him to hospital. When I reached there, he was unconscious. I rushed him to the facility but on reaching he had already died," Karungi said.

Rose Abooki, the widow, said Baguma collapsed immediately after he had returned from his shop in the Kinjura trading centre.

Eulogised

Different journalists and media practitioners in the region have described Baguma as someone who was disciplined, hardworking, and who did journalism with a lot of passion.

"It's shocking to hear that Baguma who was looking healthy is no more," Emmanuel Okello of the Ugandan Radio Network (URN) said.

Ismail Bategeka, another journalist, described Baguma as someone who was developmental and who had a promising future.

He has survived with a wife and three children.

Baguma, was the son of Kanaginagi Ateenyi, one of the best farmers in Bunyoro. He started his career in Journalism in 2009 at former radio Kitara, then later joined Bunyoro Broadcasting Services (BBS FM) and then Vision Group in 2010.

By the time of his demise, he was the treasurer Greater Masindi Media Practitioners Association (GMEPA).

By press time, burial arrangements were ongoing and the body had been taken to his ancestral home in Bokwe Village Labongo sub-county, Masindi district.
