Athletics team ready for FEASSSA Games

Uganda’s athletics team, managed by Joseph Mawa has a strong belief that the crew of boys and girls will make a historic podium sweep this year.

As the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports (FEASSA) Games athletics championship starts Thursday at Amus College School, Team Uganda is confident of gaining various awards and the championship.

Uganda’s athletics team, managed by Joseph Mawa has a strong belief that the crew of boys and girls will make a historic podium sweep this year.

Speaking to Vision Sports, Mawa shared his optimism and the team’s determination to claim victory which Kenya has dominated for a while. 

“It’s our dream as Team Uganda to win the title which stubborn Kenya has always won," he said.

“I know there is much tension and expectations are high at home, but this time, we have a strong team. I am grateful our boys and girls are going to compete with some of the Kenyan athletes who took part in the ISF World Schools Championship.”

The successful boys and girls were picked during the secondary schools' national Ball Games II and Athletics championship that was held at Teso College Aloet from 9th -17th July 2024. were put under a three-week residential training camp at Ndejje University for molding.

Christopher Mugisha Banage, USSSA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said the athletes hand-picked have the potential to make Uganda proud after the Game which comes to its climax on August 27th, 2024.

“We have been finding it difficult to beat Kenya in athletics, but this time around we shall break the monopoly in Teso,” he noted.

Some of the athletes lined up for the games are Deogracious Munguleni, Francis Adilo, Philip Ochola, Joshua Bwambale, Joseph Freza Yokwe, Kennedy Rubangakene, Erick Ojambo, Ronald Okello, Richard Espana, Justine Oboi, Denis Arike, Asa Anenu, Briden Tumwene, Rogers Okot, John Kokas Ebiot, Joseph Sunday and Godfrey Edweu among few in the boys’ categories.

Under the girl’s category are Monica Akello, Mary Awat, Malvine Akweni, Sylivia Nansereko, Sandra Abalo

Peace Mbabazi, Vicky Ananu, Golda Victoria, Rita Teddy Chemutai, Brenda Chemutai

Patient Cherop, Rita Kipsang Cherop, Karine Chelimo, Priscilla Chepkwemoi, Peace Chebet and Papetra Ocwee
