The 2023 Futsal Premier League has kicked off with assurance from the sponsors BetPawa over the playing venue.
The sponsors have handed over a cheque of sh128m to the stadium owners at Old Kampala Sports Arena as a fee for the venue for the whole season that runs until June next year.
Ivy Nyonyozi, the Betpawa country marketing manager handed over the cheque to the organizers of the league that is running for the 5th season since inception in Uganda.
“We are here to develop the sport in the region. We have partnered with FUFA to develop Futsal as one of the three packages of FUFA that we are going to develop. We have started by renovating the stadium and bought uniforms for the clubs as we look forward to the smooth running of the season,” noted Nyonyozi.
The CEO of the Futsal Association of Uganda (FAU), Ibrahim Mugerwa, the chairman Hamza Jjunju, and club officials received the uniforms and the cheque before the kickoff.
“We are happy with the BetPawa partnership and we are now looking forward to the refurbished stadium,” noted Jjunju.
In an innovation in the league, each of the players in the winning team on any day will be walking away with sh150,000/=.
The global PR manager of BetPawa Lola Okulo has said that the money will be wired directly to the player's accounts.
