The 2024 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Elite Games climaxed Saturday with Buddo SS and Bukedea Comprehensive winning big at the three-day games hosted by Jinja SS.
Buddo SS retained the netball accolade after beating Baptist SS 32-28 in a tense final, and again won both girls’ basketball and 3x3 basketball titles, to top the trophy chart with three.
Bukedea Comprehensive on the other hand took home a double of volleyball trophies with the boys’ team overthrowing Standard High Zzana 3-1 in a tense final to win their first school title.
The Bukedea-based side again claimed the girls’ volleyball title after overpowering rivals Ngora High School 3-1 to also win their maiden accolade.
Jinja Progressive Academy won the biggest battle of the day, beating hosts and rivals Jinja SS 5-4 on penalties after a barren normal time, in a football final watched by hundreds of fans at Kakindu Stadium.
Kawempe Moslem retained the girls’ football title after collecting maximum points in a five-game round robin, with Boni Consilii coming second with 12 points while St Noa won bronze after finishing 3rd.
The boys’ handball title went to national and FEASSA champions Kakungulu Memorial while Gombe SS won the girls' accolade.
The assistant commissioner of physical education and sports in the education ministry, Sam Odong, presided over the closing ceremony and also awarded the winners the trophies.
The USSSA Elite Games are organised for the best eight teams of the previous championship as a curtain raiser for the USSSA national competitions every beginning of the year and this was the 5th edition.
