More than 300 swimmers from eight clubs will compete in this year's Formidable Masters Swimming Gala on May 3 at Ntinda, Kampala - set to become East Africa's largest masters swimming championship.
The event will feature over 60 female participants among its diverse field of athletes aged 25 to 70 years.
Formidable Swim Club chairperson Donald Rukare revealed this year's edition will blend competitive swimming with entertainment. "We're creating a complete package of sport, fun and excitement," Rukare announced during Monday's launch.
The host club will field 84 swimmers (26 women and 58 men) across multiple events including the 100m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 100m Breaststroke and various relay competitions.
"This championship goes beyond competition - we're building Uganda's masters swimming culture," said team captain Peter Ssebanakita. Head coach Louis Wolimbwa added: "We're determined to keep the top honors at home with strong performances across all categories."
The gala aims to celebrate athletic endurance while promoting fitness and healthy living among adult swimmers, marking a significant milestone in Uganda's growing masters swimming community.
