The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni has paid tribute to the Uganda Cricket Cranes for qualifying for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Writing on X, the First Lady said, “I take this opportunity to warmly congratulate @CricketUganda in celebration of this incredible milestone. We thank God for gifting you and Uganda such a massive stage for you to showcase your talents and achieve even more. Let's go to ‘The Big Dance’.”
Uganda booked their tickets to the global tournament after defeating Rwanda by nine wickets yesterday at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Qualifier in Namibia.
Uganda finished behind Namibia at the seven-team event to secure one of the two qualification tickets. It will be Uganda’s first appearance at a senior cricket World Cup. At the inaugural World Cup in 1975, Uganda were part of the East African team and had two players on the roster in Sam Walusimbi and the late John Nagenda.
Uganda won five of six games at the Qualifier in Namibia, including a five-wicket win over test-playing Zimbabwe, who will miss out on the World Cup that will be held in the United States and West Indies in June next year.
