Thirty coaches are currently undergoing a one-month CAF ‘C’ Coaching Course at Soroti Secondary School in Soroti City.

The course, fully funded by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and certified by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), began on Monday, February 17, and will run until March 16, 2025.

During the opening ceremony, FUFA Executive Committee Member in charge of Women’s Football, Agnes Mugena, urged the coaches to set ambitious career goals.

“If you’re here without clear goals, you’re in the wrong place. As coaches, you must have a vision for where you want to be in the next 5 to 10 years. I’d be proud to see some of you coaching national teams like Kenya or Brazil,” she emphasized.

The CAF ‘C’ Coaching Course is one of the most prestigious in the country, and FUFA believes it will transform Ugandan football if the coaches apply their knowledge effectively.

Mugena, who was the chief guest at the event, also encouraged the coaches to share the knowledge they gain.

“Many of you are focused on earning certificates, but it’s crucial to pass on what you learn to others. As a federation, we’re committed to capacity-building because it’s the only way to elevate Ugandan football. Many people are involved in football but lack the technical expertise to manage it effectively. That’s why we’re starting with you—the coaches,” she explained.

CAF Instructor Ben Mwesigwa, speaking on behalf of the coaches, praised their dedication and urged them to put their new skills into practice.

“Thank you all for attending this training. My appeal is simple: let’s demonstrate to the world that we’ve been empowered with technical and tactical knowledge. Don’t wait for big opportunities to come your way—start your own clubs or academies and apply what you’ve learned,” Mwesigwa said.

Michael Erebu, another CAF instructor, commended the coaches for their discipline and commitment.

“This group is not only committed but also highly disciplined. Carry this attitude with you wherever you go as coaches,” he remarked.
