Vision Group has reiterated its dedication to promoting women’s football in Uganda by pledging continued media coverage and publicity for all female football competitions, including national teams at all levels and domestic league structures.

The commitment was delivered by Vision Group’s Senior Content Producer, Hellen Mukiibi, on behalf of CEO Don Wanyama and Editor-in-Chief Barbara Kaija, during a meeting held today at the company’s headquarters in Industrial Area, Lugogo.

The delegation from FUFA was led by third Vice President Florence Nakiwala.

The visit was aimed at officially presenting the newly designed FUFA Women Super League trophy and strengthening the partnership between FUFA and Vision Group.

“I believe you’ve witnessed our consistent coverage of women’s sports across New Vision and other Vision Group platforms,” said Mukiibi. “We remain committed to this cause, as long as FUFA continues facilitating access to matches, players, and coaches for exclusive coverage by our journalists.”

In response, Nakiwala expressed appreciation for Vision Group’s long-standing support of women’s football and called for even greater media engagement to inspire future generations.

“We come to New Vision with humility and urgency. What you spotlight grows. What you publicize gains value. We need your voice now more than ever to make women’s football more visible,” she emphasized.

“You have featured the Uganda Cranes and celebrated our football heroes. Today, we ask you to elevate this trophy—not just as a cup, but as a national symbol to champion women’s football,” she added.

Explaining the symbolism behind the new trophy, Nakiwala noted that it reflects the resilience and determination of women in football.

“It represents the young girl playing in torn sneakers, the mother who sacrifices a meal to buy a football, and the unpaid coach driven only by belief. It honors all women who have propelled this game forward with grace and grit,” she said.

Nakiwala was accompanied by her deputy Rogers Mulindwa and representatives from FUFA Women Super League clubs, including Aminah Nakato (She Corporate), Zaina Namuleme (Makerere University), and Krusum Namutebi (Kawempe Muslim Ladies).

Meanwhile, Kampala Queens are on the verge of making history as the first team to lift the newly unveiled trophy. With 47 points—nine ahead of second-placed Kawempe—they only need to avoid a loss by more than four goals when they host Kawempe at the Philip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Even with three matches left, Kampala Queens’ superior head-to-head record over Kawempe ensures that they are firmly on course to be crowned champions, regardless of tomorrow’s result or the outcomes of the remaining fixtures.
