The members of Kampala Club are gearing up for an exciting sports week, during which they will compete in 10 different disciplines.
The club has launched the 2025 Kampala Chairman’s Cup, which will run through Saturday.
This annual tournament also marks the occasion for leadership transition within the club, as explained by the current chairman, Eliot Ainomugisha. He shared that the tradition began in 1911 when the club was founded and has since become a cherished annual event.
Initially, it was the responsibility of the club chairmen to sponsor the tournament, as they were in a position to do so at the time. However, over the years, this trend has shifted, and the club itself, along with external sponsors, has taken on the role of funding the event.
“This is an exciting week for the 600 members of the club, with over 200 participating in various games. The tournament is not only enjoyable but also promotes the health and fitness of our members,” Chairman Ainomugisha remarked.
This year, City Tyres has stepped in as a sponsor, providing 92 trophies for the winners. Herbert Bashasha, the marketing manager of City Tyres, presented the trophies to the management of Kampala Club.
“The club is made up of distinguished members who have contributed significantly to society. By sponsoring these trophies, we hope to inspire them to support sports initiatives in their own capacities wherever they work,” Bashasha noted.
The competitions will feature a variety of sports, including lawn tennis, badminton, squash, table tennis, darts, swimming, Scrabble, Mweso (a traditional board game), walking, and chess.
