The one-week annual Kampala Club Chairman’s Cup culminated on Saturday, with members competing in ten sporting disciplines across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events.
City Tyres donated 92 trophies for the event, which attracted over 200 participants competing in lawn tennis, table tennis, squash, badminton, swimming, darts, Scrabble, walking, mweso, and chess.
The annual event marks the close of the administrative year at the club, which sees a bi-annual change in leadership.
Among the women, Patience Musiime of the Bank of Uganda emerged as the top performer, securing seven trophies. She won in table tennis, walking, and Scrabble, while finishing second in lawn tennis, squash, swimming, and darts.
Other standout female participants included Edith Karashani, who won in badminton women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, as well as in table tennis. Lillian Sengooba, a former national volleyball star, claimed victories in mweso and squash.
In the men’s category, James Tugyende, Simon Mugabi, and Andrew Baguma excelled across multiple disciplines.
Musiime emphasized the importance of consistency and encouraged fellow members to involve their children in sports.
“Our facilities also benefit youths who play at the national level in badminton, squash, and lawn tennis,” she noted.
The chief guest, Fred Bamwesigye, the Director General of Civil Aviation, praised the sports culture at Kampala Club and pledged continued sponsorship for the event.
Outgoing chairman Eliot Ainomugisha commended the cooperation of the working committees and highlighted the club’s growth, not only in membership but also in infrastructure, with an expansion of 230 square meters.
“We have also refurbished the Choate Hotel and Restaurant, among other achievements,” he noted.
The event was sponsored by City Tyres, Civil Aviation, Stanbic Bank, Centenary Bank, Old Mutual, the Uganda Tennis Association, the Uganda Squash and Rackets Association, Choate Hotel and Restaurant, Butiti Ranch, and several individuals.
