The Kampala Rockets claimed their first win of the National Basketball League season with a hard-fought 67-61 victory over UCU Canons at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Wednesday night.

Christian Ndibu powered the Rockets with a dominant double-double performance of 12 points and a game-high 22 rebounds.

"This win was crucial for team morale," Ndibu said after the game. "Now we focus on finishing the regular season strong and pushing for playoffs."

The Rockets, coming off a narrow 51-48 loss to Victoria Crocs, battled through a tight contest that saw UCU lead 9-8 after the first quarter. Ndibu's 9 first-quarter rebounds kept Kampala in contention before his 6-point second quarter helped trim UCU's halftime lead to 25-23.

The momentum shifted after the break, with Brian Opio's clutch three-pointers in the final period sealing the win. Roxine Ahumuza (12 points) and Kevin Kasobya (11 points) - a recent UCU transfer - provided valuable scoring support. UCU's effort was led by Ibanda Lwabaga's game-high 23 points and Jimmy Otim's 11-point contribution.

Nam Blazers Crush Crocs in One-Sided Affair

Elsewhere, Nam Blazers delivered a statement performance with a 99-63 demolition of Victoria University Crocs. The Blazers established control early, leading 24-15 after the first quarter before extending to a commanding 45-19 halftime advantage.

Innocent Ochera torched the nets for 29 points, while Michael Makiadi (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Peter Obleng (16 points) completed the rout. The Blazers will look to maintain their perfect start when they face JKL Dolphins on April 2.

Women's League Dominance Continues

In women's action, JT Lady Jaguars maintained their strong form with a 73-30 thrashing of Angels. After taking a 16-10 first-quarter lead, they limited Angels to just 4 third-quarter points en route to the blowout win.

Other women's results saw Miracle Ravens edge KCCA Leopards 80-75, while UPDF Lady Tomahawks defeated Nkumba Lady Marines 62-47.

Friday Night Showdowns

The action continues Friday with a marquee men's matchup between City Oilers and JT Jaguars at Lugogo Indoor Arena (9:00 pm). The Jaguars enter fresh off a 73-46 win over Livingstone, while the Oilers seek redemption after an 81-80 opening loss to Nam Blazers.

Women's basketball takes center stage earlier with UCU Lady Canons facing KIU Rangers in a 7:00 pm tipoff at the same venue.
