The Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope on Friday hosted FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, committee members of the FUDA Drum tournament and Busoga Province team at his Budhumbula Palace in Kamuli district.
Busoga Province team is part of the 16 teams competing in the 2023 FUFA Drum tournament that is ongoing and on Sunday 23rd July 2023, it will host West Nile in Kamuli.
While at the Budhumhula Palace, FUFA President, Moses Magogo, introduced the Busoga Province team before the Kyabazinga and further explained to him about the FUFA Drum tournament.
Magogo requested the Kyabazinga to bless the Busoga Province team and also interest his subjects to support it in the ongoing FUFA Drum tournament.
He further requested the Kyabazinga to rally the business community and politicians especially Members of Parliament in the Busoga sub-region to support the team financially to improve the welfare of the players.
Magogo who is also the Budiope East Member of Parliament, said that the FUFA Drum's first edition was won by Buganda Province, Acholi won the second edition and West Nile won the third edition adding that the final of this year’s edition which is the 4th will be played in December at a venue that will be communicated.
Henry Dhikusooka, the President of the Busoga Province team, assured the Kyabazinga that they are going to deliver beyond their expectations and bring the FUFA Drum trophy home.
The chairman of the FUFA Drum tournament, Rogers Byamukama, said they look forward to working with Busoga Kingdom so that the game of football and sports generally continue to flourish in the Kingdom.
Byamukama thanked the Busoga Kingdom through its structures for grooming many sportsmen who have served the game of football in the Country as a whole, starting with Eng. Magogo, Isa Magoola, the Late Kakaire, and Faisal Mohammed among others.
Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala, urged Busoga Kingdom’s Minister of Sports, Owek Amin Bbosa, to integrate a system of selecting the best players from the Masaza tournament and sending them to FUFA officials or FUFA Drum officials for consideration to join clubs of their choices or the National team.
Busoga Kingdom’s second deputy Prime Minister Owek. Alhaj Osman Ahmed Noor revealed that this year’s Masaza Cup tournament will kick off on August 5th in the Mayuge district adding that the Kyabazinga confirmed to officiate at the opening match.
The Kyabazinga of Busoga William Gabula Nadiope IV requested FUFA President and the FUFA Drum Committee to work together with the Busoga Kingdom to promote talent and the game of football in the Busoga sub-region.
The Kyabazinga pledged to work in partnership with FUFA President to financially promote the Busoga Province team adding that games help to reduce the risks of getting noncommunicable diseases by keeping someone physically fit.
Present was Ronnie Isabirye Kalema a committee member of FUFA and Busoga Province team, Isa Magoola Kakaire the Eastern representative at FUFA, Yusuf Kagwa the deputy treasurer of Busoga Province team, Amin Bbosa Busoga Kingdom’s Minister of Sports, Yudaya Babirye Busoga Kingdom’s Minister for Kyabazinga Affairs, Prince Henry Woira and Busoga Kingdom’s Permanent Secretary Isadhaibi.
