Busoga United FC has been unveiled as a community team by the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV.

The Kyabazinga unveiled the team during a dinner celebrating his 36th birthday at his Igenge Palace on Wanyange Hill in Jinja City on Saturday.

The club was officially handed over to the Busoga Community under the patronage of the Kyabazinga, who also blessed it during his birthday celebration.

The new logo and jersey colors unveiled were inspired by Busoga Kingdom’s traditional colours.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) officially transferred the management of Busoga United Football Club to the Kyabazinga of Busoga, following challenges faced by its previous owners.

FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, alongside other FUFA officials, handed over the club to the Kyabazinga.

During the event, Magogo made a presentation about the development of football in Busoga, its vision, a brief background of FUFA, and highlighted some of the Uganda Cranes players and legends who started their football journeys in Busoga.

Magogo presented Busoga United Team's new logo and jersey to the Kyabazinga, who signed them.

Magogo called for funding for the team up to a tune of sh 500 million per year and requested stakeholders and well-wishers to support the community team.

“Teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid, among others, are community teams and have lasted for years in the football world since their inception. We request the Kyabazinga to support us because we expect to unite Busoga through football by supporting one community team,” Magogo said.

Magogo revealed plans to develop the Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe to international standards, which will create more jobs and promote talent among youth in Busoga.

Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, appreciated the Kyabazinga for accepting Busoga to have a community team and later announced an interim committee of the Busoga United FC community team led by Haji Abubaker Walubi.

“I request the Speaker of Busoga Lukiiko, George Mutyabule, that when the Lukiiko convenes again, we will pass a resolution endorsing Busoga United FC as the community team for Busoga, which I will present,” Muvawala said.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga, said that once talent is promoted through football, players from various teams in Busoga will be able to earn money internationally and build schools and hospitals back home, like Sadio Mane and Didier Drogba did in their countries.

“So let's improve our efforts so that our boys may be able to advance in the world of football,” Kadaga added.

In his speech, the Kyabazinga expressed appreciation to FUFA President Magogo for developing football in Busoga and the country at large, adding that many Basoga players have succeeded in playing for the national team and international clubs.

“Promoting talent in Busoga is a sign of unity of purpose—thank you for heeding my call to promote unity through football,” the Kyabazinga noted.

He promised that ObwaKyabazinga Bwa Busoga (OBB) will continue to work with FUFA in promoting football and the talents of youth in Busoga Kingdom and Uganda at large.
