The growing prominence of futsal in Uganda has taken a significant leap, thanks in large part to the unique sponsorship model introduced by BetPawa.
The league’s innovative “locker room bonuses” have directly benefited players, elevating both the level of competition and the sport’s visibility.
The Futsal Association of Uganda was recently recognised by FUFA as the Best Member Association, a testament to its well-structured league operations. Association chairman Hamza Jjunju credited this success to the support from BetPawa, whose bonus initiative has transformed the league.
“Locker room bonuses are the magic here,” Jjunju said. “Players from the winning team each receive sh95,000 per game, paid instantly to their mobile phones. This has relieved clubs from the burden of budgeting for win bonuses.”
While receiving an award from the Futsal Association, BetPawa Uganda Managing Director Tumushabe Allan praised the association’s organization and commitment to player welfare. “We introduced this initiative to make a tangible impact on the lives of footballers, and we’re proud of the results,” he said.
Tumushabe reaffirmed BetPawa’s commitment to supporting futsal and encouraged the association to promote gender inclusion in what remains a male-dominated sport.
This season’s biggest beneficiaries were Mengo City, the league champions, and Park FC, the runners-up. Players from both teams collectively earned sh25.65 million in matchday bonuses—highlighting the financial impact of the sponsorship.
