The Makerere University Bridge Club will take a narrow lead into the final round of the National Bridge League following the conclusion of the third round, held at Makerere on Saturday.
Makerere Bridge-1 solidified its position at the top of the standings with an impressive 775.87 Victory Points (VPs), maintaining a slim lead over a resurgent Ndejje Mavericks-3, who climbed to second place with 756.22 VPs.
The leaders aim to secure the championship when the league heads to Ndejje University for the final showdown on March 29.
In the third round, Makerere Bridge-1 faced stiff competition in matches against Ndejje Mavericks-1, Mixed Team 9, and Kyambogo Bridge. Despite the challenges, their consistent performance allowed them to retain their lead, though the gap has narrowed to just 19.65 VPs.
Ndejje Mavericks-3, buoyed by a strong showing in the latest round, jumped from third to second place, signaling their determination to challenge for the top spot in what promises to be a fiercely contested finale. With two matches remaining for all ten teams, the competition is set for an exciting climax.
For Makerere Bridge-1, the path to securing the championship involves overcoming seventh-ranked University Aces-1 and fifth-ranked Victoria Bridge. Both opponents will be eager to upset the frontrunners and improve their own standings, making these matchups critical tests of Makerere’s resolve.
Meanwhile, Ndejje Mavericks-3 faces a challenging yet potentially rewarding final round. Their first match will be an intra-club showdown against fourth-ranked Ndejje Mavericks-1, a clash that could prove decisive in their pursuit of the lead. They will then conclude their campaign against bottom-ranked Mixed Team 9, presenting an opportunity to maximize their VP tally with a convincing victory. A strong performance in both matches could see them overtake Makerere and claim the title.
