Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC kicked off their FUFA Women Super League title defense with a well-deserved 3-0 victory over Rines SS at the Valley Grounds on Sunday.
Agnes Nabukenya, last season’s joint top scorer with 10 goals, picked up right where she left off, netting a hat-trick to secure the win for her team.
Nabukenya opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, calmly converting a precise pass from captain Phiona Nabulime past Rines SS goalkeeper Bridget Nansamba.
Just before halftime, Nabukenya doubled Kawempe’s lead with a powerful header from Krusumu Namutebi’s cross, sending her team into the break with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
At the 60-minute mark, Hadijah Nandago skillfully worked her way through the Rines defense, setting up Nabukenya to complete her hat-trick and seal the three points for the five-time champions.
Meanwhile, at the Makerere Arena, Makerere University and She Maroons played out a goalless stalemate, with neither side able to break the deadlock.
On Saturday, 2022 champions She Corporate edged Uganda Martyrs Lubaga 1-0, thanks to Whisper Alomo’s goal at the NEC Coffee Grounds in Bugolobi.
She Corporate, who spent last season in the FUFA Women Elite League, made a triumphant return to the top flight with this narrow victory.
Their goalkeeper Molly Naava was named Woman of the Match for her excellent goalkeeping, denying the students an equalizer.
In Soroti, league debutants Amus College secured a 1-0 win over Olila High School, with Shafiga Tamis scoring the only goal of the match.

Earlier on Friday, Kampala Queens were held to a 1-1 draw by Wakiso Hill at the Philip Omondi Stadium, with Judith Mawuwa’s stoppage-time free kick canceling out Shamusa Najjuma’s 62nd-minute goal for the Queens.
