Winger Emily Lekuru stole the show with an impressive six tries, leading the Black Pearls to a commanding 55-10 victory over the Ewes in the women’s rugby league match held at Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere.

Lekuru’s remarkable performance once again highlighted her status as Uganda's top try scorer, a key player the national team misses dearly when she’s not on the squad.

The Black Pearls’ dominant display was further boosted by two tries from Immaculate Mercy Mufuwa and a try from Emanuella Oroma.

Charlotte Mudoola contributed with four precise conversions, while Bushira Namutebi added one more to cement the team's victory.

Starting strong, the Black Pearls secured a 21-5 lead by halftime and maintained their momentum to finish the match at 55-10, sending a clear message to their rivals about their determination to defend their title.

Meanwhile, at Kyadondo, the Thunderbirds handed the Avengers a resounding 36-0 defeat.

Angela Nanyonjo and Asha Nakityo each scored two tries, with Mary Kyoita adding two conversions and Samiya Ayikoru chipping in with another conversion to complete the rout.

At Legends Rugby Club, the Nile Rapids edged out the Black Panthers 17-10 in a closely contested encounter.

Despite the Black Pearls’ emphatic win, Coach Helen Buteme remained grounded, emphasising the importance of addressing errors in their gameplay.

"We’re proud of this big win, but we won’t celebrate just yet. There’s still room for improvement, and we aim to come back even stronger in our next game," she said.
