As the drinks flowed, so did the stories. Strangers became friends, and laughter echoed through the festival grounds. It wasn’t just about the music, Nyege Nyege was a melting pot of cultures, personalities, and shared experiences.

The second day of the Nyege Nyege festival concluded on an unprecedented high note. Although the day began slowly, with only a few revellers at the venue, it was hard to anticipate that the party would pick up and become vibrant later in the night.

The Talent Africa stage attempted to scale up the hype, with Amapiano music, and indeed, the DJs there did a commendable job. However, for the party-hungry people, it was still not enough. For the lovers of the now famous binyanya sound, Jinja’s Decimal Point, with his mobile disco, had something for you as you get ready for DJ Ssuuna Ben on Day 3.

At some point, Decimal Point’s mobile disco was more lit than a few other stages. He had whites dancing to binyanya like they were possessed by something.

For the actual party, however, the Spirit of Uganda stage took the day, or the night, so to speak. From Reggae, Afrobeat, Caribbean, and Hip-Hop to anything that could make one dance their feet swollen, this stage was what everyone yearned for.

Despite the action that was taking place on the main stage, which was just a few metres away, it was hard to ignore the lit party going on at the Spirit of Uganda stage. White people with their off-the-beat dance moves controlled the dance floor, attracting huge numbers of parties to join them.

Later, after 10:00 pm, comedian Patrick Salvador took the mic to freestyle on a mix of dancehall instrumentals, something he always loves to do.

The main stage was isolated, with a host of performances from South Sudanese and Japanese musicians, whom the crowd didn’t find that exciting. The stage would, however, get overwhelmingly vibrant after 10:00 pm, when rapper Sypda MC stepped up with the Nilotika ensemble.

Spyda interestingly rapped on live traditional instruments, executing his act quite well. This excited the crowd, a lot of which was filled with international revellers. He performed songs like Kyaddala, Birooto, Abantu Mukisa among others.

MC Jokwiz Clean continued with his prowess on the microphone, entertaining the crowd as DJ Tony took the crowd back in time with old Ugandan music.

Tony's mix lasted for an hour until Zex Bilangilangi stepped on stage to crown the night in perfect Nyege Nyege style. With his infectious energy that he always carries with him on stage, it did not matter that the crowd had already seen him on stage, earlier, during his sound check session.

Zex came in with Magazine, arguably one of his biggest club bangers. He got the crowd uncontrollably excited, setting the mood right Party Yani, 2019, Nalinda and Number Emu, among other hit songs of his.

In the crowd, as he performed, you had to protect your partner jealously, otherwise, in no time, they would be dancing with some other stranger right before your eyes.

In typical Nyege Nyege style, the party ended in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 16, with many retiring to bed, to recharge for day 3.
