Amid the excitement during the Blu 3 reunion concert at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel on June 22, a heartwarming moment happened when singer Vinka paid tribute to Jackie Chandiru.
Besides Chandiru, other Blu 3 members are Lillian Mbabazi and Cindy Sanyu.
Chandiru had introduced Vinka on stage during her performance.
Having been her former backup dancer, Vinka recognised Chandiru for her dedication and for inspiring her journey in the music industry.
Vinka's unexpected appearance as a surprise guest brought a lot of energy and excitement to the audience.
Together, the two women delivered a dynamic rendition of Vinka's songs Bailando and All Over You, with a stage full of choreographers.
Their on-stage chemistry created a spectacular show that drew thunderous cheers from the crowd, with many calling it the highlight of the event.
“Vinka’s energy is unmatched, and her performance was the highlight of the night,” one reveller exclaimed at the venue. “We need a full concert now,” he added.
Vinka expressed gratitude to Jackie for the opportunity to share such a memorable experience on stage together.
"Years ago, as a young girl with curfew, Jackie and her manager met my mother, seeking permission for me to join her as a dancer. Jackie's perfectionism pushed me to strive for excellence, and I was nervous on stage, striving to deliver my best," she said.
"Sharing the spotlight with you as fellow musicians meant the world to me. Thank you, Jackie Chandiru, for your kindness and talent. Last night was truly iconic," she added.
After Vinka's electrifying performance at the concert, journalists and fans alike took to social media, specifically X, to voice their demand for a Vinka concert. The campaign gained momentum quickly as more and more Ugandans joined in, threatening to summon her management, Swangz Avenue, if a concert was not organised soon.
“Starting July 1, I will begin collecting signatures from fellow Ugandan music fans. Once we reach 100 signatures, we will petition Swangz Avenue to organize a Vinka concert before the end of this year. This concert is long overdue, retweet if you will sign,” Patrick Sentongo posted on X.
“Swangz Avenue, A Vinka concert is long overdue. I'm going to riot,” @NzePatoh said
“Someone has shared my sentiments Vinka and Swangz Avenue over to you,” said Isaac Sejjombwe.
Even Chandiru expressed her excitement and support for the much-awaited concert.
"I think it’s long overdue. She should have held her concert a long time ago because she is a star. I have a personal connection to her. She literally came up in my hands, and by the time they picked her as the Female Artist of the Year, I was beyond happy," said Chandiru.
"We are continuously releasing new music and will be doing so soon to further entertain Ugandans. When the opportune moment arrives, we aim to deliver the finest concert experience. We encourage Ugandans to continue supporting Vinka and anticipate what is yet to come," said one of the managers.
