It was on, then it was off, and now it's on again - this time for good.
Ibrahim Kasule is a New York Red Bulls II. Finally!
The former Wakiso Giants midfielder put pen to paper on an MLS NEXT Pro contract yesterday after sealing his transfer to the Ibrahim Sekagya-managed outfit, completing a transfer move that appeared the have collapsed three months ago when the playmaker joined Turkish second-division side Ankara Keciörengücü.
When Kasule left Uganda Premier League side Wakiso Giants, it was, according to official reports, for New York Red Bulls II.
But days later, the midfielder was in Turkey, happily settling in at his new club.
The American Dream, it seemed, was not for Kasule.
Except it actually is, much to the delight of his new club.
“Ibrahim and the skills that he can provide are going to fit right in with the squad this season,” said New York Red Bulls II Coach Sekagya.
“His success in Uganda at such a young age was a main factor as to why we decided to bring him in for this season.”
Kasule curved out the reputation of a creative force during the first half of the 2022-2023 Uganda Premier League, in which he led the division in assists.
That he is joining a club with three other Ugandans, including former Wakiso Giants team-mate Frank Ssebufu, as well as Steven Serwadda, should accelerate his adaptation.
The reasons for his delay remain to be established, but Red Bulls II are glad their man has finally arrived.
"We are looking forward to adding a player like Ibrahim to the group,” Sporting Director Denis Hamlett confirmed.
“He has the qualities that we look for when deciding how to improve the current squad.”
