KCCA FC to face Rwenzori Lions in Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16

KCCA FC will take on Kitara region-based Rwenzori Lions in the Round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, following the draw conducted on Tuesday morning at the FUFA Complex in Mengo.
The draw was conducted by former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Ibrahim Mugisha.
Record winners KCCA FC, who had been struggling in recent matches, returned to form last week with a dominant 5-0 victory over Mbale Heroes in the Uganda Premier League at the MTN Omondi Stadium. The win ended a five-match winless streak and a three-game scoring drought, providing a much-needed confidence boost ahead of their Uganda Cup clash.
Goals from Usama Arafat, Shafik Nana Kwikiriza, Sadat Anaku, and substitutes Yain Gatbel and Sharif Ssengendo highlighted the team’s resurgence. Coach Abdallah Mubiru will hope this momentum continues as KCCA enters the knockout stage against Rwenzori Lions, a team that has emerged as one of the tournament’s surprise packages.
Although not considered heavyweights like KCCA, Rwenzori Lions have proven to be a formidable opponent. For KCCA, this match is an opportunity to reaffirm their ambitions of winning the Uganda Cup. With key players like Arafat, Kwikiriza, and Anaku in good form, KCCA will be confident in their ability to overcome Rwenzori Lions and advance to the next round.
In other Round of 16 fixtures, defending champions Kitara FC will face Big League side Gaddafi FC. Kitara, who won last season’s title with a narrow 1-0 victory over NEC FC, will aim to defend their crown, though Gaddafi FC promises to be a tough challenge.
Meanwhile, Uganda Premier League leaders Vipers SC will host FUFA Big League leaders Blacks Power FC in another intriguing matchup.
The Round of 16 matches, scheduled for March 17th to 22nd, 2025, will be single-leg encounters, adding to the excitement and intensity of the competition.
