Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Swans made a statement in their opening fixture of the National Hockey League, delivering a ruthless 21-0 victory over Thunders Hockey Club.
Forward Lucky Akello was the star of the show, netting an incredible seven goals in the emphatic win.
Akello remains confident that with consistency, the Swans can mount a serious title challenge.
"We plan to maintain a steady flow of results by playing our hearts out and fighting to get back to the continental stage," she said.
The Swans’ attacking prowess was undeniable, with Akello’s sisters, Winnie Alaro and Norah Alum, each scoring five goals. Margaret Nassiwa and Immaculate Nakku added two apiece, while Pauline Ninsiima capped off the scoring with one.
Fresh from their second appearance at the African Cup of Club Champions (ACCC) in Egypt, the Swans have signalled their intent early, looking every bit the title contenders. Their dominant display sees them top the standings, followed closely by Gazelles and Wananchi, all tied on three points but separated by goal difference.
In the men's division, Thunders Hockey Club also made a strong start, dismantling debutants Wabalonzi 14-1 to claim the top spot.
Weatherhead Hockey Club followed suit with a commanding 4-1 win over Rockets Hockey Club, securing second place in the early-season rankings.
