Nasser Mutebi is eyeing this year's Sprint Championship on Boxing Day in Busiika, Luwero district.

Navigated by Steven Bunya in a Mitsubishi Evo 9, Mutebi has set his sights high after a successful regular season, finishing fourth overall behind winner Jas Mangat, Shell Power ambassador Ronald Sebuguzi (second), and Equity Bank ambassador Dr. Moustapha Mukasa (third).

The 2010 National Rally Champion returned to the cockpit this year, aiming for silverware in the event that climaxes the 2024 rally calendar.

This year, the Nash Rally team driver has been consistent, registering podium finishes in the Kyabazinga Rally in Iganga and Bugiri, and the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally, which was the fourth and final round of the Africa Rally Championship. He also won the SMC Challenge Rally in Kalisizo, Kyotera.

Earlier this year, Mutebi invested UGX 139 million in overhauling his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 and has vowed not to upgrade to a more powerful car, despite rumors. "My dream was to drive an Evo 9 before I retire, and I am driving it now," Mutebi told Vision Sport.

However, in Busiika, Mutebi is expected to face tough competition from other top drivers, including three-time NRC champion Ronald Sebuguzi and the 2019 and 2023 NRC champion Nasser Mutebi, who has confirmed he will be driving his Ford Fiesta R5, which returned this year from the UK after a serious upgrade.

He urged fellow drivers to brand themselves to secure valuable sponsorships from corporates and to seek knowledge on how to drive a rally car and improve their skills.
