Defending champions Kitara FC have been drawn against BUL FC, winners of the 2021/22 edition, in the quarter-final stage of this season’s Stanbic Uganda Cup.
The draw was conducted this morning at the premises of one of the tournament sponsors, Plascon Kansai.
Santosh Gumte, managing director of Plascon, presided over the draw in front of the press and applauded the clubs that have shown resilience to reach this stage.
“Our target is to ignite and inspire talented football players, which we began in 2021. Since then, we have seen many Ugandans showcase their skills and gain visibility,” noted Santosh.
He gave special recognition to lower-division clubs Kataka and Kaaro Karungi for breaking through to the quarter-finals.
Santosh also encouraged more corporate entities to sponsor sports in the country.
The FUFA Competitions Committee chairperson, Aisha Nalule, represented the football governing body during the draw.
She announced that the quarter-final ties will be played over the Easter weekend, from 18–22 April, at various venues.
“This will be a one-leg encounter. In case of a draw, an extra 15 minutes of play shall be allowed for each half, followed by penalty shoot-outs to determine the winner in case of a stalemate,” Nalule noted.
Coaches Richard Makumbi (Kaaro Karungi) and Godfrey Owachango (Kataka) were also present to oversee the draw.
KCCA FC have won the trophy 10 times, SC Villa 9, and Vipers SC 7, while BUL, Police, and Kitara have each lifted it once.
The winner of the Uganda Cup earns the right to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup next year.
