Swimmers step up at second USF League Meet-2

As the swimmers prepare for the final league meet in September, several athletes are leading their respective age categories.

Peyton Mary Suubi and Marie Zara Mbanga from the Jaguar Swim Club are poised for an intense rivalry at the upcoming Uganda Swimming Federation (USF) league meet after their standout performances at League Meet-2, held at the Rockwood Pool in Bweyogerere on Sunday.

In the girls’ 13-14 years category, Suubi currently leads with 204 points after two meets, narrowly ahead of Mbanga, who trails by just two points. Dolphins Swim Club’s Mackayla Ssali sits in third place, 38 points behind Suubi.

The two swimmers showcased their strengths in different events, with Suubi excelling in endurance races. She claimed victories in the 400m freestyle (4:52.72), 400m individual medley (5:27.00), and 200m breaststroke (2:50.08). Meanwhile, Mbanga dominated the shorter distances, winning the 100m backstroke in 1:11.01 and the 50m freestyle in 28.73. However, Suubi edged her out in the 50m butterfly, clocking a personal best of 30.56, with Mbanga and Ssali finishing close behind at 30.68 and 31.80, respectively.

In the boys’ 15-16 years category, Sailfish’s Arthur Mwase delivered an impressive performance, winning the 400m freestyle in 4:33.72. He was followed by Gators’ Benjamin Lutaaya (4:46.74) and Daniel Rukundo (4:54.88).

As the swimmers prepare for the final league meet in September, several athletes are leading their respective age categories. In the 10&Under girls’ category, Aqua Akii’s Adams Aya tops the leaderboard with 108 points, ahead of Sailfish’s Denorah Natabi (99) and Nyla Musoke (92). For the boys in the same category, Jaguars’ Austin Wanyama leads with 104 points, followed by Aqua Akii’s Tzion Tamale (93) and Gators’ Arthur Rugaba (89).

In the 11-12 years categories, Nisha Pearl Najjuma (194 points) and Torpedo’s Elijah Ayesiga (211 points) are the frontrunners for the girls and boys, respectively.
