Aside from analyzing, commenting, and writing about the matches, Vision Group will also participate in the 2024 Standard Chartered Cup.
The company has registered two teams for the one-day event also dubbed the Standard Chartered Cup Road to Anfield scheduled for September 7 at Phillip Omondi KCCA FC ground at Lugogo.
The New Vision and Bukedde teams will be competing in the 5-Aside competition for corporate teams that have a customer base attached to Standard Chartered Bank.
41 teams have been drawn into eight groups where New Vision is playing in Group G while Bukedde is in Group H, the only group with six teams.
The Vision Group captain Julius Kafuluma said after the draw that both teams are ready to go beyond last year’s performance where the New Vision was ejected in the semifinal and Bukedde lost in the quarterfinal.
“We narrowly missed the road to Anfield and this year we are back with thirst. We are looking at ejecting CFAO Mobility, a team that beat us in the semifinal last year and Roofings that won the event in 2022 to qualify in the group,” noted Kafuluma.
Joel Kivumbi of Edgar Youth Programme who are the main technical organizers of the tournament said that two winners from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals.
The games are scheduled for five minutes each half.
“The referees will be tough on fair play,” he warned.
The players have also been warned not to use boots with metallic screws and to avoid chewing gum and smoking.
This will be the 7th Standard Chartered Road to Anfield Cup where the winner takes it all for a three-day visit to Europe and to enjoy one big Premier League game involving Liverpool FC, according to John Baptist Mwesigye, an official at Standard Chartered Bank.
