Action film star and martial arts kickboxer Tony Lutakome Kayanja has raised his booking fees by over 100%.
Welcoming 2024, the actor, renowned for his roles in movies such as The Nudes and Kifeesi, announced his new booking rate at $,5150 (about sh18.5m), up from $2,150 (about sh8m) the previous year.
Addressing the fee increase and its viability in the Ugandan industry, Kayanja explained that despite criticism in the past, he received numerous projects from those who recognised his worth, elevating his status as an actor.
"It's about me and what I know I can deliver. Last year, many people criticised me, thinking that no one would hire me, but I still got roles from those that knew my potential. This year, I am going the same way, and I think I will still get hired by people that believe in me," Kayanja stated.

He also hinted at challenges faced in 2023, including an alleged poisoning incident on set, expressing gratitude for a new lease on life and optimism for bigger projects in 2024.
In 2023, Kayanja secured roles in films like Omuzigo, a series by Joseph Kenneth Ssebaggala, and Who Killed Captain Alex 2 by Isaac Nabwana (pending release), along with various productions from Hassan Mageye and other producers.
