Key event

The minister said that his counterpart, presidency minister Milly Babalanda, and officers in charge of the Heroes Day preparations, would at a later date give details about the preparations for the event.

“We hope many Ugandans will come to participate and attend this key event that speaks to our history,” Baryomunsi said.

The government commemorates Heroes' Day every June 9, in memory of the first NRM/A heroes executed in Kikandwa, Luweero district, by the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA) in 1981.

The area played a pivotal role in the five-year guerrilla war that brought President Museveni to power.

Heroes Day serves as a reminder to current and future generations of the importance of courage, resilience and service to the nation.

Last year’s event took place at Kasaala playground in Butuntumula sub-county, Luwero district under the theme “Arise Uganda: Our Heroes’ Sacrifices Now Bear Fruits”.
