NIC has taken firm control of group A and their sterling performance against JKT Mbweni on Wednesday morning was a reflection of their ability to adapt to tough conditions.
The women’s netball champions of Uganda warmed into their match against the Tanzanians slowly but once they did, they performed exceptionally well as they won the tie and encounter against JKT with a 69-25 win.
NIC captain Joan Nampungu admitted playing foreign teams is an acquired taste but after a few quarters, it becomes easy for all those that are involved.
“All the teams we face are not easy, that is why we first have a study of their playing style in the first thirty minutes after which we know what to do,” she said.
It makes sense to put a lot of time and energy into their encounter against KJT because on Thursday they have the top of the line fight against Prisons.
The winner of the encounter will win the group and they stand to avoid a potential banana skin against KCCA who will top Group B.
“We need to win this game because it will be the decider for who takes leadership of our group because we need it the most. We are going to beat them and lead the group,” Nampungu explained.
NIC assistant coach Ali Mugisha was also happy with how well the team remained resolute in defence and attack.
“I am impressed with the girl’s performance. The attacking prowess and the defensive combination was very good. JKT had a physical game. It was very physical and tough for the girls but we managed to come out strong and we had a win,” Mugisha told New Vision Sport.
