The CAVB Zone V Club Championships are set to get underway on Wednesday at the Lugogo Arena and Old Kampala Arena, with top volleyball clubs from across the region ready to compete.

Uganda will be well represented in both the men's and women's categories. Nemostars, Sport-S, KAVC, UCU, and KCCA will battle for honours in the men’s competition, while Sport-S, KCB, Nkumba, Ndejje Elites, VVC, and KCCA will carry the country’s hopes in the women’s category.

The championship promises tough competition, with strong teams like Rwanda Revenue Authority (REG), APR, and RNP expected to participate. Defending champions Gisagara will be absent, but Burundi’s Rukizo, alongside teams from Tanzania and South Sudan, will be in action.

Uganda’s hopes rest on top-performing teams such as Sport-S and Nemostars for the men, while KCCA, Nkumba, and Ndejje Elites are strong contenders in the women's division.

For Nemostars, the tournament serves as crucial preparation for the Africa Club Championships in April.

“We are trying to put up the best show that we can. We know very well that this championship is a precursor to the bigger stage, so what we display at the Zone V will mean a lot to the resource mobilisation for the Africa Championships,” stated captain George Aporu.

“Technically, we are putting in the time. Just like we have said, it will be a good experience for many players, and that is good for us when it gets to the Africa Club Championship—many of our players will be exposed to high-level competition,” he added.

As hosts, Uganda is looking to make the most of this opportunity, not just to compete but also to expose its players to top-tier volleyball. With teams across the region eager for a strong start to the season, the competition promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent and skill.
